You have already learnt 240 kanji before going to kanji posted on this article, but can you memorize those well? I am thinking that these 240 kanjis are well-used in our daily life, and you would understand Japanese well if you were here. I hope you become a Japanese dictionary or Japanese translator for your friends when you come to Japan by studying Japanese at this blog.

On this post, I listed 100 kanjis which are learnt at 3rd grade of elementary school. Actually the number of kanjis which 3rd grade students learn reaches 200 kanjis, but it is too many to show you on one post. So I divided all to two parts. This time the number of kanjis you have learnt is 340 in total! Let’s check kanji list below!

Japanese sentences using all kanjis you have learnt here

Just memorizing is too boring to continue as you know. It might be the time to make words or sentences to make it fun. I am introducing you Japanese sentences with kanjis, English translation, Japanese only in hiragana, and romaji to male you tye the Japanese on your keyboard. The kanjis used here are only what you have learnt so far.

1. 悪いことをするのはよくない
   It is not good to do a bad thing.
   わるいことをするのはよくない
   Warui kotowo surunoha yokunai
2. 安くお酒を飲めるお店を知ってるんだ
   I know a restaurant serves us alcohol reasonably.
   やすくおさけをのめるおみせをしってるんだ
   Yasuku osakewo nomeru omisewo shitteirunda
3. この道は夜暗くてこわい
   It is scary to walk this road because it is dark at night
   このみちはよるくらくてこわい

Oh I just realized that this kanji list is too difficult to memorize because of lack of its meaning. Sorry for the inconvenience. I will make a kanji chart WITH each meaning or kanji word.

We, Japanese, learn kanjis for numbers in a 1st grade of elementary school. In other languages, there are many things to memorize before you get to be able to speak numbers, but in Japanese, we need to only know 10 kanjis to count less than 100. Plus, if you want to count till 1 billion, you need to learn additionally only four. Kanjis for numbers are very easy.

Basic kanjis for numbers

You can count till 99 by just using this ten kanjis. Let’s go to some examples.

• I have sixteen brothers and sisters.

• We have twenty-five students in our class.
  →ぼくのクラスには二十五人の生とがいる。
  →bokuno kurasuniwa nijyu-goninno seitoga iru

Advanced kanji for numbers

Now, you can count till one hundred billion in Japanese. Let’s move to some examples.

• Two hundred sixty people live in that area.

• You can see five-thousand and three-hundred kinds of animals there.

• More than thirty thousands of Japanese people die every year.
  →毎年三万人いじょうの日本人がしんでいる。

• In this month, we made a million yen for sales.
  →今月のうり上げは、百万円でした。
  →kongetsuno uriagewa, hyakumanen deshita
• Some of my friends have more than hunderd million yen.

kanjis for numbers consist of other kanjis

The kanjis for numbers above are not only used to indicate numbers, but also used in kanjis as a part. Japanese kanjis are combinations of some kanjis, which means you can decompose a kanji to some kanjis. The kanji consisting can influence a meaning and pronunciation of a whole kanji. When you memorize many kanjis, you get to be able to assume a meaning and pronunciation by just considering a part of the kanji. There are some kanji including kanjis for numbers.

I am introducing the next kanji chart below. If you haven’t checked Japanese kanji chart for 1st grade of elementary school students in Japan, you should go. On my Facebook page, some know more than a half of it, and some know all of it. How many kanjis do you know?

Kanji chart for 2nd grade of elementary school students

I am sorry that it is quite big and not convenient to check all at one time. You can click each chart to see it in a big size. The total number of kanjis that 2nd grade of elementary school students learn is 160, twice as much as kanji of 1st grade. How many kanjis do you know?

I have posted variety kinds of kanjis, and you can see many kanjis on the internet. But it might be tricky to you. So I am introducing you the chart below, which indicates all kanjis 1st grade of Japanese elementary school students. 1st grade of students study 80 kanji in a year through homework, kakitori that I posted about on the previous article, [Tool] The way to practice Japanese Kanji in school in Japan.

The number of kanji we learn

The number of kanjis which we study in a year increases every time the grade goes up. In total we study over 2,000 kanjis in a compulsory education. Honestly speaking, I can’t believe that our brain remembers more than 2,000 kanjis, but surely we wrote down kanjis in a kakitori notebook every single day. One difficulty is that, we sometimes come across a kanji symbol that we have already learnt but it has other meaning or pronunciation. We didn’t study all the meaning and pronunciation at a time, and it made us confused.

I am thinking to introduce a kanji from this chart for a while because these kanjis are the easiest ones of all kanjis. I don’t know I will keep it until finishing though. Some of them are already posted on my blog.

How many kanjis on the cart above do you know? The kanji chart should be read top-left to bottom-right, which are ordered by pronunciation, so-called あいうえお順. If you memorize 10 kanjis in a week, you can finish all in 2 months. It would be a good specific goal to study Japanese. Also do please care the pronunciation because a kanji has some pronunciation.

Be careful to okurigana when you study kanjis

The alphabets in brackets are called 送り仮名（おくりがな：okurigana）. This is tricky too. We sometimes forget it and look it up on dictionary or check it by typing. Typing is very easy but it is not suitable to memorize kanjis. So in this computer-based working style, we frequently forget kanji, okurigana, and so on. Don’t get nervous to keep kanjis in your brain too much because we, Japanese, also forget. Repeatedly speaking, the only way to memorize kanjis is just to write down again and again. I think this chart would be a textbook for you to study kanji first. Hope it helps.

Long time no see everybody. My last update: [Fresh Japanese] I watch it was posted on this April. It was a half year ago. The reason why I started this blog is to tell people who are interested in Japanese language real Japanese. I think there are many websites enabling you to study Japanese in many ways like, a typing game, a flash card, a quiz, and so forth. Of course those methods would be useful to you, especially keep your motivation high, but those are not the way we, Japanese people, learn hiragana, katakana, and kanji. Also I’m not sure whether the contents are really true or not because those are provided by foreign people in most cases.

I was trying to blog simply and deeply about Japanese, but the more I try that way, the more the contents get too simple to do better in terms of SEO, and my blog hasn't got many views, and then I lost my motivation to keep updating, honestly speaking. However, I found that my video uploaded on YouTube channel, handwriting of Japanese, got almost 1,000 views, which was not big actually, and some people left comments on it. It is motivating me a lot. Responses from foreign people studying Japanese make me energetic. So, I've decided to restart this blog, I swear here.

Tool:Japanese kanji notebook for exercise

Anyway, today I am introducing the way we learn Japanese writing in elementary schools. The picture below is an example of Japanese practice drill. This is very popular educational materials used for ages. We write along with the guide and say aloud to memorize. In our Japanese classes, so-called "Kokugo (国語:こくご)", every student have to take the class, write, and read aloud. Do you have such drills in your Japanese lessons? Also we frequently have a homework,"Kakitori (書き取り:かきとり)", a kind of kanji notebook, which lets us write kanji repeatedly to memorize kanji symbols and each pronunciation. In my case, I did Kakitori every day for exercise. You can see a Kakitori notebook below.

We, Japanese, spend a lot of time to remember kanjis. We don’t have something special to learn it. Let’s keep studying with me. I definitely will support you. I am going to post some kanjis on an article, with each pronunciation in romaji (alphabet) and hiragana. Also I will show you some words with each kanji and example sentences with the words. Only kanji doesn’t work. Only words don’t work. Kanji and words in sentences work well. Please let me know if you have any questions.
